Le Violet outremer est un pigment inorganique dérivé du sulfosilicate de sodium. En le chauffant avec du chlore, on obtient une nuance plus violette et moins saturée que le bleu outremer traditionnel. Cette variante présente une teinte mauve très claire, avec une texture légèrement pelucheuse. Sa transparence le rend idéal pour les glacis ou les applications en couches fines. Utilisé principalement pour les tons clairs des ciels.
