A rich, earthy violet-brown, traditionally based on iron oxides. Warm and muted in undertone, it offers depth and subtle complexity. In masstone it is dense and dark; mixed with white it reveals soft, dusty mauves. Ground in linseed and walnut oils for a smooth, slightly shorter handling. A relatively fast-drying pigment, well suited for both underpainting and upper layers.

Une teinte profonde brun violacé, issue traditionnellement d’oxydes de fer. Sa tonalité chaude et sourde offre une grande richesse et complexité. En pleine pâte, elle est dense et sombre ; mélangée au blanc, elle révèle des mauves doux et légèrement grisés. Broyée dans un mélange d’huiles de lin et de noix pour une consistance douce et légèrement plus courte. Pigment à séchage plutôt rapide, adapté aussi bien aux couches d’ébauche qu’aux couches supérieures.
