Francien Krieg’s work explores portraiture and the human body with remarkable depth and sensitivity. For over twenty years, she has developed a figurative painting practice focused on the human presence, approached without idealization or artifice, where vulnerability becomes essential. Her portraits are not meant to beautify, but to reveal. Aging bodies, self-portraits, adolescents in the process of becoming, and silent figures all emerge as moments of transition — fragile states suspended between strength and disappearance. This attention to what shifts, transforms, and slowly fades forms the core of her artistic practice.

In her paintings, the skin becomes a space of observation. Marks of time, imperfections, and physical tensions are never hidden; instead, they affirm a shared and universal human experience. Krieg’s work challenges conventional ideas of beauty, often shaped by idealized social standards, offering a more honest and deeply embodied vision of humanity.
