Used since Roman antiquity (PG23 — glauconite and celadonite). Fully transparent with very low tinting strength, its muted olive-grey-green was never designed to be seen as a green. It acts as a cool structural underlayer, neutralising warm grounds and producing the luminous half-tones beneath flesh colours that no warm earth can achieve on its own. Irreplaceable in classical painting technique.

Utilisée depuis l'Antiquité romaine (PG23 — glauconite et céladonite). Pleinement transparente et à très faible pouvoir colorant, son vert gris-olive sourd n'a jamais été conçu pour être vu comme un vert. Elle agit comme une sous-couche structurante froide, neutralisant les fonds chauds et produisant les demi-teintes lumineuses sous les carnations qu'aucune terre chaude ne peut obtenir seule. Irremplaçable en technique classique.
